Get Paid For Watching TV? Here’s 8 Ways

If you’re anything like the average person, you’re already spending countless hours watching a screen every week. So, why not get paid for it? “But that’s impossible!” you’re likely to exclaim. “Who in their right mind is going to pay me to sit around and do, well, nothing!?” Guess what! There are people out there who must be crazy. Getting paid to sit around in your underwear (or whatever you’re most comfortable in) while watching videos is a real thing.

Now, just to be clear, the people who are going to pay you for living a life of leisure are not quite as crazy as you’d think. You’re certainly not going to get rich with this scheme, nor are these supposedly crazy people going to pay you without a catch. Fortunately, many of them make the money with which you’ll be paid through advertising revenue. Yep, they’re just like YouTube and most TV stations, except for the fact that these guys are less greedy so they’ll share some of their revenue with you.

It might also be worth pointing out that you’re not always going to get away with doing absolutely nothing. With some of these guys, you can — just open the videos in a new window and let your browser bank some passive dollars. For those that require a little interaction, you can still leave their videos unattended, but you’ll have to remember to occasionally glance at it to see if you need to click on something.

If all of this getting-paid-for-doing-almost-absolutely-nothing-while-sitting-around-in-your-underwear sounds like something you’d love to do but you still can’t quite believe, check out a few of our favorite providers below and watch the dollars roll in. Don’t forget to look for the ‘Yes’ next to ‘Passive’ when evaluating these options. If there’s a ‘Yes’, that means you can earn money for doing nothing.

1. EarnHoney*

Passive: Yes

Pays You With: Paypal and Amazon Gift Cards

EarnHoney is the first crazy on our list. See that little star next to their name? EarnHoney gets that star because, once you’ve loaded up a video, there’s nothing more you have to do. The videos will continue to autoplay as long as you remember not to close down the window.

Before considering EarnHoney though, take the time to learn about viewability. In a nutshell, if the tab you’re playing the videos in is not your currently selected window, your viewability rating goes down. What this means is that, if you want to maximize your earnings then you really do have to do nothing… on your computer. But there’s nothing stopping you from putting their window on top and taking a nap.

2. Swagbucks *

Passive: Yes

Pays You With: Paypal and Gift Cards

With a name like Swagbucks, it’s probably only a matter of time before you’ll be walking away with a swag of bucks. But, before you get too excited, there’s a number of ways to watch videos with Swagbucks and these ways were not all created equal. The only way that’s entirely hands off is through the Swagbucks app which is available for iPhones and Androids. On the other hand, if you don’t mind interacting with their website, you can earn in other ways. The nCraves and Sponsored Video Section are good places to start here.

3. Perk.tv*

Passive: Yes

Pays You With: Paypal and Gift Cards

Sometimes slothfulness has its perks. Perk.tv makes sure of that. Sure, you’re going to have to sign up. You might even feel compelled to install one their apps. But once that hassle is out of the way you can sit back and let those Perk Points accrue. Complete passivity now has its perks.

4. Checkpoints*

Passive: Yes

Pays You With: Gift Cards

Checkpoints is an app, so you’re going to need a spare phone or three. Once again, your slothfulness might pay off here. Remember those old phones you were going to recycle? Press them into service and start collecting Checkpoint Points with them. Load up the app on each one, press play, and watch the Perk Point pile up. Each video earns one point, so imagine what watching multiple videos of once can do. That’s right, N x PHONES = N x PERK POINTS. Actually, don’t get too carried away as their Terms of Use does exclude such behavior.

5. Earnably

Passive: No

Pays You With: Paypal, Amazon Gift Cards and Bitcoin

This one takes a little work. With Earnably you need to click on each video before it will play. To make the best use of your efforts, go for the AdBistro videos. You’re rewarded with 1 point for each of these that you watch, up to a maximum of 100 per day. Takes a little work, but a simple click every now and then shouldn’t hurt you too much.

6. Apptrailers

Passive: No

Pays You With: Paypal and Gift Cards

Apptrailers is an app, so you’re going to need to set your phone aside to run this. It’s also not as passive as some of the others. The effort level is minimal, requiring nothing more than a tap of the screen every now and again so that it thinks that you’re still watching. As a bonus, if you’re already with Perk.tv, Apptrailers Points can be converted to Perk Points. As a double bonus, remember the brilliant but not so brilliant idea about multiplying the Perk Points with multiple phones? This might be one way to do it.

7. InstaGC

Passive: No

Pays You With: Paypal, Direct Deposits and Gift Cards

InstaGC requires that you click on each video. This isn’t so bad, and most will run happily in the background meaning that, once you’ve clicked, there’s no more to do until you want to play another video. As an added bonus for all of your clicky-clicky efforts, InstaGC will InstaPay. That’s right, no lengthy waits for your payouts to be processed.

8. PrizeRebel

Passive: No

Pays You With: Paypal, Gift Cards, Direct Deposits, Bitcoin

Last and quite possibly least on this list is PrizeRebel. Why least? Well, their website requires quite a bit of interaction in order to earn anything. Videos are just one of the ways for you to earn, but even with this most passive of passive money making methods, you’ll still need to do some work. If you want to earn by watching videos here you’ll need to fill your daily video meter by watching 45 seconds each of six videos. If you can manage that, you get 2 points. Then you can do it again and again, up to a maximum of 20 times a day.
